Music. How do I describe music? Music has soul, rhythm, artistry, synthesizers, instruments, vocals and melody. In essence, all of these elements produce a little somethin’ somethin’ called sound. Everyone has a favorite song or lyric they relate to in whatever capacity it may be – a song to pump you up before a basketball game, a song to get your creative juices flowing in the morning, a song to fall asleep to, a song to scream (or excitedly shout) as you zip-line across the jungles of Costa Rica, a verse to hum as you scuba dive alongside manatees, a song to teach as you visit an orphanage in Nepal, a song to serenade a herd of curious reindeer in the Norwegian backcountry… Regardless of where you are, music unquestionably makes our toes tap.
While we travel from different sites throughout our summer, say from Jurassic Park-esque Hanalei to magical FernGully Kapa’a on Aloha ‘Aina, we’ve got a soundtrack. Traveling in big, white (or gold depending on availability) 15-passenger vans is nothing short of amazing, but adding a great mix CD to listen to makes it even better! The songs on these CDs will always be available to us, far longer than the experiences we’ll share together on “The Road” in fact. But when your summer is over and a song from your trip randomly plays on the radio, be warned: your hippocampus (your short-term/long-term memory center) may kick into overdrive.
Below is a snippet of current songs we’re jamming to in the office. Press play and enjoy. What are you listening to right now?
