Why Work For The Road Less Traveled?

To be a part of the leadership of The Road Less Traveled is to be a part of the RLT family - a family of responsible, flexible, creative and organized leaders. Our programs focus on wilderness adventure, cultural awareness, environmental education, community service and language learning. We offer young people a life experience that sparks both their physical and intellectual growth.

What You Can Expect:

The Road Less Traveled operates programs of varying lengths. Dates of employment can range anywhere from June 14 to the end of July or middle of August, depending on your trip assignment. These dates include an eight-day staff training for all staff prior to the start of our programs. You might lead one, two or possibly three sessions of a program over the course of a summer. We will make every effort to employ you for as long as you wish, but request flexibility with trip assignments and dates. We are committed to making the strongest leader teams possible and sometimes wait until late spring or even staff training to make a final placement.

Trip Leader, Co-Leader, Intern:

The Road Less Traveled offers three staff positions: Trip Leader, Co-Leader and Intern. Co-leaders and Interns work in conjunction with the trip leader in a variety of supportive roles. The trip leader is responsible for implementation of objectives, participant adherence to procedures and regulations, relations with general public and sub-contractors, trip logistics, expenditures and accounting, supervision and evaluation of co-leaders, program evaluations, final trip inventory, and has the overall responsibility for all other aspects of the trip. Most first year staff are Co-Leaders. If, however, you feel you have the qualifications and would like to apply specifically for our trip leader position, please indicate that on your application. We also employ a small number of interns during the summer. Interns are past participants of RLT programs, who have completed their first year of college and will act as a third staff member on our program.

The Benefits:

Your salary with The Road Less Traveled includes all food, lodging and transportation from the beginning of orientation through the closing of your trip. We also offer pro-deals on outdoor equipment from a variety of well-known manufacturers. Salaries are based on qualifications and experience, and our goal is to hire as many returning staff as possible.

The Hiring Timeline:

Our hiring season generally runs from September until early May. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
