Zanmi Reyini Disaster Relief: Haiti Family Service

Program in Brief

While we hope we can provide service to this area in great need of our assistance, we will only proceed if we are completely confident in the safety of our group. Please call our office to discuss this program option (800.939.9839).

We have watched the ongoing widespread devastation and overwhelming scale of disaster in the wake of the Haiti earthquake. As this tragedy continues to unfold in the weeks, months and years ahead, we are in constant contact with non-profit organizations on the ground throughout the country. We continue to monitor in-country safety daily.

Program Description

We have talked with many of you who continue to want to be involved and help. The core of our disaster relief community service programs will always be to contribute confidently and effectively to those in need. When a massive reconstruction effort is necessary, our goal is for The Road Less Traveled to provide the most useful work safely as circumstances allow. We believe our safety record is one of the industry’s finest.

By listening to the stories of rural residents, by ensuring that planning is participatory and inclusive, and by building the capacity to deliver services and assist in fulfilling the rights to health, water, and shelter, we know we can aid in the rebuilding efforts. Details will continue to be forthcoming as our organization evaluates and determines which forms of assistance are most needed. For those of you who we have already spoken to, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for your commitment, generosity, and devotion to assisting the people of Haiti. If you would like to join us in our efforts, please contact our office — for those of you willing to offer your skills, time, hands, and heart, it will be an experience that will forever change your life.

Our Program

The Road Less Traveled summer experience is a true partnership and the result is an extraordinary international collaborative effort and an equally cooperative endeavor for all. We offer an experience where young people engage in a service of presence and active listening in the world. We encourage involvement and cultivate leadership, excellence and professionalism, openness and sensitivity, initiative, communal participation, and social activism. We hope that somewhere in the variety of summer service learning, language, adventure and leadership programs honed from years of experience to be perfectly suited to teenagers, you will find a program that inspires you to sign up and get out on The Road Less Traveled!

The Road Less Traveled is accredited by the American Camp Association. Our accreditation indicates that we have voluntarily allowed our practices to be compared with over 300 standards established by professionals in the camp industry and that we have met or exceeded those standards. Through the accreditation process, outside teams of trained camp professionals observe the camp in session to verify compliance with standards in the areas of health, safety, and program quality, including emergency procedures, program practices and design, health care, personnel policies, vehicle safety, goals, and administration. In addition to being an ACA-accredited camp and a member of the Midwest Association of Independent Camps, we are a licensed child-care facility in the state of Colorado.

The Road Less Traveled is an equal opportunity provider. Our programs are conducted through special use permits granted by the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.
