After the decline of the auto industry, riots, rampant crime, and urban decay, the city of Detroit struggles to find a new identity. Learn about the historical and educational causes of the 1967 uprising. Experience one of the oldest and largest year-round markets in the U.S. and work with urban agriculture as a platform to promote education, sustainability, and community. Stroll around the outdoor Heidelberg art exhibit and marvel at the combination of visual art, community, and the beautifully weird that makes this place uniquely Detroit. Explore Motown’s music history at Hitsville and visit the artist-run neighborhood-based “project houses" that integrate arts and culture into the daily life of a diverse Detroit neighborhood. Finally bike from pedal to porch with stops at neighborhood homes to hear residents tell tales of a city in the throes of transformation and where the power of storytelling initiates new conversations that celebrate Detroits history and future.
The Road Less Traveled does not require any vaccinations or immunizations to travel with us, other than an up-to-date tetanus shot or booster (within the last nine years).
