Doug graduated from Harvard College in 2013 with an honors degree in Social Studies, dabbling in engineering, food science, and renewable energy along the way. As a native Chicagoan (and flatlander), his first major outdoors adventure was through Harvard's freshman pre-orientation outdoor program. He loved it enough to lead two trips during his time there. His outdoor adventures continued when post-graduation work in the tech industry brought him to Seattle, where mountains and waterways can be found in every direction. After three years, he left Seattle to travel, spending six months across Southeast Asia, Australia, and Europe, hiking, diving, and chowing down along the way. Doug is now back in Chicago, where he has been engaged in education-oriented criminal justice reform work in the city, in addition to leading canoe and kayak trips, volunteering as an after school tutor, and being involved in the urban agriculture scene. He digs cooking and biking, but rarely at the same time. He's thrilled to bring his joy of cultural immersion (especially via food!) to The Road Less Traveled this summer.
