Ginger’s home county of Marin in California is a dreamland of outdoor adventure and natural beauty. The rolling green hills, tall redwoods and rocky seashore fostered a deep love of adventure in Ginger. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz, where her studies of ecology and evolution took her from alpine meadows in the Sierra Nevada to the kelp forests of Monterey Bay, and even to the warm, lush sea grass beds in the Mediterranean Sea. A mix of recreational and scientific SCUBA training increased her enthusiasm about exploring new environments. In the years since college, she has spent time getting to intimately know the Santa Cruz mountains, teaching fifth and sixth grade outdoor education under the redwood trees. The many trails and roads through the coastal mountains are the perfect playground for her. Ginger has also spent her past few summers hiking many hundreds of miles all over the West Coast, including the Oregon and Washington sections of the Pacific Crest Trail. Plants, space, whales, cookies and topographic maps are a few things that Ginger finds fascinating.
