Hometown: Concord, NH
Education: St. Olaf College
Julia was born and raised in Concord, NH and is proud to call the Granite State home. The oldest of five siblings, she grew up in a family of wood workers and outdoor enthusiasts who sparked her passion for travel at a young age. After high school, she left the White Mountains for the cornfields and subzero temperatures of Minnesota. She graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in Anthropology and Religion. After graduation, Julia spent one year teaching English as a Fulbright Scholar in a village in rural Nepal, where she fell in love with the people, landscape and culture. While living with a host family, she learned how to plant and harvest rice, milk a water buffalo, and cook dhal bhaat (traditional rice dish). When she is not traveling, Julia lives in Baltimore, MD and works for a non-profit that provides advocacy and social services to individuals and families in immigration detention. She can’t wait for another exciting summer with the Road Less Traveled before starting a master's program in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies at the University of Bradford this fall.
