The first summer I spent with The Road Less Traveled in Hawaii, changed my life. I had never been camping before; I had never even really hiked anywhere. I fell in love instantly. There’s something about being detached that brings out the most real, rough side of you. I enjoyed all the typical fun elements of the trip, but in the end I found myself treasuring the hardships more: the intermittent rain and how we got on in it while in our normal lives we would have hidden, the dirt that got into everything, and the act of getting in and out of my tent at the most inconvenient times. I went on two more trips with The Road Less Traveled and found myself enjoying all of them immensely—each one seemed to bring out something different of me. I now hope to share my initial wonder at the outdoors with others,”-Lizzie
Lizzie Madloch is a recent graduate from Skidmore College. She's about to take a gap year to pursue her love for the outdoors as she applies for medical school. Lizzie has been part of the RLT family since the first summer she went on a trip as a participant, when she was 14, and has loved traveling to Hawaii, Colorado, Norway, Tanzania, and California with this organization. In her free time Lizzie enjoys reading Stephen King novels, listening to country music and driving the climbing crags in her red pick-up truck. You can find her by her seagull-like laugh or simply set out a Yerba Mate and she will find you.
