Footsteps of Giants is an adventurous trip with back-to-back days of sea kayaking, rafting, backpacking, and mountain biking. The Norway program is designed for students who are in good physical standing and those who enjoy long, active days.
Overflowing with crystal-blue glacier lakes, cascading waterfalls, lush green valleys, and Norway's highest mountains, Jotunheimen National Park is an undisturbed mountain paradise in Eastern Norway. Trekking alongside majestic reindeer, elk, deer, and rugged alpine terrain, we explore the lush green summits of Northern Europe's highest mountains, Gladhopiggen (8,100 ft.) and Gliittertind (8,083 ft.), while forging unforgettable bonds with our peers and relying on teamwork to carry us through the legendary "Home of the Giants."
Safety and communication are important to us. We provide our leaders with the latest emergency communication systems and strive to update parents and send photos as often as we are able. Because the majority of the Norway program is in the backcountry and access to regular cellular service is limited while we are in the mountains, updates will come as we head into town and after our adventure sections. Parents can also expect a phone call home half way through the trip.
In case of emergency while in the backcountry, our leaders carry an Iridium Satellite phone and can communicate back and forth with local medical facilities, our office, and contact our 24/7 on-call doctor.
I will never forget the wispy mornings in Norway, waking up in a puddle, regretting nothing, and rolling out of the tent to be greeted by some of the kindest and most unique people on the planet. Each day brought a new adventure with its own obstacles and challenges, and even when Mother Nature kicked us to the curb, we were still there for each other. I learned more from this trip than just about the outdoors, I learned about myself. I learned how to be more patient and tolerant and I am proud to say that I became slightly more optimistic. But most of all I learned that you can always push yourself beyond your limits. This is a lesson I will carry with me for the rest of my life," Andy, Footsteps of Giants Alum
I LOVED Norway! It has become my favorite place in the world. The group on my trip was great and the experience was amazing! I felt so accomplished after completing it and fell in love with nature even more," Annika H., Footsteps of Giants Alum
Thank you again for creating the bones of an amazing experience. As you can imagine, Ella is home with stories and songs and pictures. She had an extraordinary trip. Clearly, Chris and Bella were excellent leaders. It sounded like they worked beautifully with the terrain-- both physical and psychological. I am so glad that Ella got to be on a trip with such interesting and competent adults," Erika G., Footsteps of Giants Alumni Parent
