I love the giving and intellectually intelligent philosophy of RLT. When I called the office, Ashley was so friendly and down to earth and I knew it would be a good fit for our son. Our son came back with a better understanding of himself and his place in the world. He has more confidence in his ability to be a close friend and to be appreciated as a close friend by others... I would say that his goals have changed in that he can envision himself doing and becoming more. He can envision a bigger life outside our community and outside our country." - Parent of Liam D., Norway: Footsteps of Giants

To my surprise we saw a changed Samarth. The trip taught him how to accept different people, respect their views, and make them as good friends. Experiences he gained were worth every penny, and to see a humble Samarth has been a blessing. I think with this trip my son is ready to leave home for college next year... Keep doing what you are doing for the next generation, they need this support system to figure out who they are." - Parent of Samarth D., Costa Rica: El Sendero

This trip helped Elise confirm that she wants to study marine biology in college. One thing Elise really enjoyed and appreciated was not having access to electronics. She said "without our phones we all just talked the whole time" - and she loved it!" - Parent of Elise A., Belize: Gud Mawnin
“Nicole loved interacting with the Vietnamese people she met on the trip. The program section at Friendship Village was eye-opening for her - it's a part of American history that wasn't really discussed in her American history class, so to see the effects of Agent Orange first-hand definitely made an impact... we are thrilled that this trip has provided a push towards thinking about philanthropy and taking an active role in educating others." - Parent of Nicole T., Vietnam: Ban Than

We truly were in a tropical paradise, and I now only have the memories of the happiest days of my life, spent with the greatest people I have ever known. Thank you RLT for an amazing trip, and letting me explore my passion in life. I couldn’t have asked for a better, more amazing time, in the happiest place on Earth." Jordan K., Florida: Conservation is Key
Every day felt like an adventure and it definitely is an experience that I'll never forget." - Kathy F., Colorado: 5280'
Because it’s true what they say. How do you put into words such a sublime place? Where even when it rains, the view out the window is startling. With mountains that seem apart of the sky, waterfalls everywhere you turn, glaciers so raw and blue you can’t fathom the day they are gone—it’s the closest you’ll get to another planet. I miss Iceland. I truly think nowhere I ever go will feel or look exactly like it. But at least it’s apart of me now—in my journal, in my photos, in my friends. And most importantly, it’s in my heart." - Samantha L., Iceland: Nordic Elements
Thank you RLT for the trip of a lifetime!! We are so grateful for creating such an extraordinary trip for Benjamin. He absorbed so much good from this trip and came back changed and more mature and more open to what the world is and the beauty of it all." - Parent of Benjamin L., Costa Rica: Pura Vida
Going on that trip was super special and important for me, and it just proved to me how much I would love to travel in the future… the leaders were amazing and so was my group. I made close bonds, lasting memories, and have changed in ways I never thought I would.” – Kelly B., California: Pacific Sun
Coming on this trip, I had no idea that what would resonate with me most would come from something that wasn’t on the itinerary, but rather an intangible love from the people I shared the experiences with…No one person on this trip was similar to the other, but we all were one cohesive unit, brought together by the Road Less Traveled…This trip showed me just how important it is to take risks and experience what I am passionate about, because seeing the world and making the most of what it has to offer with people who have the same desire gave me what a million words and pictures could never do.” - Hayley S., Florida: Conservation is Key
I can say, without a shadow of doubt, it was the most amazing experience for her and by far the best activity we have ever found for one of our children. The stories keep coming, and the pride as she recounts how active, task oriented and helpful she felt is tangible!" – Julie D., Parent, Colorado: Call of the Wild
Thanks for the beautiful opportunity of giving service and for proving that a digital free life is way more compelling than my kid probably ever imagined. For 16 days, he had the time and space for thinking, for feeling and just for being. For digging deep when he was feeling low. For pushing himself beyond his limits. For coming together as a group. For helping and watching out for each other. For giving those different than himself a chance. to not judge. To just be himself. And be happy and comfortable doing so. You know, all of the things we never allow ourselves in real life.” – Julie S., Parent, Colorado: Call of the Wild
NOW WHY DID I HAVE TO TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO TANZANIA JUST TO FEEL INSPIRED? EASY. BECAUSE FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE… I FINALLY FELT LIKE I WAS LIVING NOT JUST EXISTING." - PARTICIPANT, TANZANIA: HUJAMBO
I just wanted to let you guys know how much this trip changed my life. I had such an amazing experience during my trip, and I constantly look back on all the good memories I made during my travels. I was a Junior in high school when I went on my trip, and now three year later I can fully appreciate everything the Road Less Traveled did for me. My trip leaders were so supportive and comforting, and whenever we got the opportunity to chat, they helped me figure out myself and made me feel so much more confident and secure. Looking back on my trip, I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to experience an RLT trip and meet so many new people, and really force me out of my comfort zone to try new things." - Delaney J., Bonaire: Bon Bini
I would just like to take a moment to share my deep appreciation with you for contributing to my RLT course in the Bonaire this summer. When people ask me about my RLT course, all I can say is that it honestly changed my life. Being so absorbed in nature with people who loved and understood me, was more than I could ever ask for. A lot of the time in the big world we are constantly struggling to complete things with authentic integrity and hard work because of all the constant distractions, but when I was on the island I was able just to make mistakes understand them and try again and do things with purpose and understanding." - Stevie S., Bonaire: Bon Bini
Through this experience I gained a higher sense of awareness about ecology and marine life, and how it affected everything from the air we breathe to the food we consume. When I eat salmon and see its bright pink color, I think about the shrimp it fed on. The scuba diving experience made me address my fear and conquer it. It revealed inside of me my tenacity, resilience, and courage to try new adventures. I recognized that you have to believe that you can achieve, because accepting that you can’t, only solidifies that you never will." - Nathan D., Bonaire: Bon Bini
I’m a much happier person now, and I get along better with my mom and siblings. I realize that not everyone is as blessed as I am, and I stopped getting angry when my family can’t afford certain things. Materialistic possessions aren’t everything, and I’m blessed to have a mother who has the strength to double as a father. Thanks to this experience, I also appreciate nature much more now. I used to be a person that wanted to stay home, that did not even think about traveling abroad. This trip completely changed my mind, and now I am even looking into schools abroad. The program also inspired me to do more international service. This experience in Costa Rica was my best memory of high school. Pura Vida!" - Lizbeth S., Costa Rica: El Sendero
I have really found who I am as a person. I have learned that I am powerful and can do anything I put my mind to." - Kyra M., Nepal: Bodhisattva
"The most significant part of my experience was being reconnected with nature when I didn’t know I had previously lost touch with it." - Lucia Y., Bonaire: Bon Bini
My most valuable and significant part of my RLT trip was having the chance to be immersed in the culture, and to get to see many different ways of life and people everywhere I went, so it really broadened my view of the world." - Alyson M., Tanzania: Hujambo
"My communication skills improved as well as my knowledge of my own Indian culture and those of my fellow peers too." - Ananya M., India: Namaste
I placed my faith and trust in your team to make this trip a life time memory for my son.
That, it did!
Although Shane has been home now for over a month, we are still hearing and learning about his adventures. The pictures, of course, tell a story, but to hear the verbal descriptions and details of various happenings that occurred on the trip, are simply amazing. - Parent of Shane H., Nepal: Bodhisattva
"I have experienced a different culture and a way of life, I think seeing this will let me see my own culture and way of life in a new, more open-minded way." - Sophie S., Nepal: Bodhisattva___________________________________________________________________________
I love the way everyone treated each other because we lived together for 3 weeks and I considered them my family. Because of the leaders, I felt like I belonged there and they made me so comfortable and confident along with my peers who went on the trip. The confidence that was given to me on this trip will always be with me for the rest of my life. I hope that the Road Less Traveled continues with these life changing trips around the world because they really do make a difference. I would like to thank everyone from the Road Less traveled for giving me an opportunity to meet a new country, meet new places, learn a different culture, learn their traditions, and eat new foods that I never thought of eating. Thank you for this once in a life time opportunity. - Jorge O., Thailand: Tham Dee Dai Dee
“If she was an Olympian and won a gold medal, I’d be more proud of her doing this” - Parent of Savannah G., New Orleans: The Gulf Coast
"I want to thank you and the entire RLT team for putting together a life-changing journey for our daughter, Christina. Tina told me she had a spiritual awakening and has been empowered to continue her service to communities that are in need. What you guys do cannot be taught by books or teachers – only experience.
Tina has entered her senior year with new perspective and enlightenment, she will succeed in life because of her “whole” learning.
We appreciate you and your work. It is critical to the needs of our young people. We sincerely look forward to planning future trips for Victoria. She, too, felt she made a difference for the community in New Orleans. Tori became more confident and independent while on her personal journey." - Parent of Victoria M., New Orleans: The Gulf Coast
"Most companies don't follow through on their mission statements but RLT, and specifically the founders of RLT, ensure that the mission and philosophy that they preach is fully implemented." - Parent, Colorado: Call of the Wild
"And the fact that he was so accepted and had so much fun on his adventures with you guys was a HUGE confidence builder for him. One that I know both he and I are grateful for." - Parent of Fin B., Colorado: 5280’
There are few things in life that live up to the expectations we create. The Road Less Traveled stands out as an experience for both of my daughters where expectations were not only met but exceeded. RLT is not just a fond memory, but a concept in our household which represents understanding and appreciating the best of yourself, while contributing something positive to the world around you." -Judith Aronson-Ramos, M.D., Medical Director, Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics of S. Florida
"The challenges that I faced sometimes led me to question why I had chosen the path that I had, and why I had not instead, stayed home and done something within my comfort zone. But sooner than I thought, I realized that only when you take a challenging opportunity and you broaden your horizons, do you gain the most invaluable knowledge. My leaders, through their inspiring words and correct predictions about my achievements, taught me this: Take the road less traveled, and when you are finally standing on top of that cliff, anxiously awaiting the step that will release your body into thin air, think about everything that you’ve accomplished so far and surely nothing will stop you from taking that life changing leap." - Cynthia P.___________________________________________________________________________
"Our son gave such a positive and appreciative narrative of his trip. It was, truly, a life empowering experience; one we know will resonate within him deeply and profoundly for life. Such a life-changing opportunity like this does not "just happen" -- it comes from tedious, thoughtful, and dedicated time and effort from the Road Less Traveled staff. There is no question that everyone involved in the planning and preparation of this program is immersed in it with heartfelt consideration and acute awareness as to how it can, and does, provide teens a fruitful and transforming trip as a part of their journey toward adulthood and independence." -Dana W., Parent
"Our son has returned safe and sound and "changed" from his Namaste experience. He has fallen in love with India - said that he felt 'at home' immediately there - not at all like it was a foreign place, but strangely familiar. He loved so many things about the trip, but said that the AIDS clinic in Jaipur was the most radically enlightening.
I think that I have already thanked you many times for the opportunities you provide these young people - who will be caretakers of our mixed up world all too soon. One might think that it is just impossible to change the world - that the young of today are to "spoiled" and selfish, they only care about money, etc. etc. - the words I hear so often from my "sixties" generation friends...but I give you back the story that my son told me yesterday, as we sat quietly in his room, and he tried to convey to me in words what he had seen and experienced...The story was told by Annika:
An old man and a young boy came upon a beach littered with thousands of starfish, flung upon the sand by a storm. The old man began to pick up starfish one by one and toss them back into the waves. The young boy, distraught at this scene of so many starfish dying in front of him, began to cry and said to the old man - There are too many! What you are doing won't make any difference! The old man quietly leaned over again, picked up a starfish and flung it far, far out into the water. He looked back at the boy - "It made a difference to that one."
What you are doing has made a difference to our son.
We thank you. We thank Annika and Jake. We thank our fortune to be in a world where there are people who work hard to make a difference." - India: Namaste Parent___________________________________________________________________________
YOU KNOW YOU HAVE IT GOODYou know you have it good when you’re excited to get up in the morning. You know you have it good when you can look back and smile about the awkwardness of meeting. You know you have it good when your life story isn’t something to be afraid of.You know you have it good when you can learn from every single person around you.You know you have it good when the people around you make it not so scary to make a leap of faith or to step off the platform. You know you have it good when you don’t need an abs workout because you’ve been laughing so much. You know you have it good when there isn’t a good reason to smile, but you do anyways. You know you have it good when its fun to talk about diarrhea, tampons and IUDs.You know you have it good when you realize that seeing something with your own eyes is better than any picture and that you don’t need a phone to bond. You know you have it good when even the plane ride home isn’t so bad because you have friends on the plane. You know you have it good when even the thought of leaving makes you miss them before you’ve left. -Janaya, Costa Rica: El Sendero
HER EXPERIENCES WITH THE RLT PROGRAM WILL, I BELIEVE, INFLUENCE HER FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. - JILL W., PARENT
"Our son just returned from a 20-day trip that included backpacking, white water rafting and rock climbing in CO and UT and had an unbelievable experience. We found the RLT group to be extremely well organized, helpful every step of the way, and responsive as needed throughout the trip. They encourage the teens to travel without friends or family so they have an experience of bonding as a group and challenging themselves individually." -Susan L., Parent
Today I felt incredibly accomplished. Hayley and I moved at least 1,700 pounds of powder cement up a hill at the work site. The things that I’m learning about myself are incredible and being able to share the experience with 21 other people is double incredible. I’ve learned that true strength comes from within and if you try something new, you automatically succeed. One of my favorite things so far has been getting to know the villages—from playing late nights of soccer to playing hide and go seek. The opportunities that this trip has brought me are indescribable. One of my favorite parts has been forming together as a family. It’s only been 6 days but it really feels like years. From Hayley’s contagious energy to Kimber’s laugh, Aidrian’s style to Neve’s soccer skills. We have all grown in this experience together so much already and I cant wait to see how things progress. My biggest concern for the future is leaving this 22-member family that I have grown to love beyond words. I am so ready to continue the memories and making this trip the best it can be. To everybody: words can’t describe how you’ve already changed my life and I will be forever grateful for every single one of you. From the bottom of my heart…thank you. – Robyn, Ecuador: Sigue No Mas
“SHE SAYS WITHOUT A DOUBT THIS IS HER FAVORITE SUMMER EXPERIENCE EVER.”___________________________________________________________________________
"Our son came back beaming with excitement, and his over 800 photos were testimony to how much he enjoyed. We are impressed at how the experience has helped to grow his character and personality." - Deepa & Rajiv___________________________________________________________________________
"This program accomplished everything we had hoped: the courage and independence to break from the crowd, and to do something interesting that expanded Ethan's horizons. I can't thank you enough. He is already talking about returning to The Road Less Traveled for another trip." - Elin R., Parent
Several bars of chocolate later, we returned to the hostel, where we heard of the magical times Amy, Paula and Sophia had in the fish market. ‘Twas an early night as we turned out the lights, only to wake up 5 hours later for our journey to the Bergen Airport. The fjord took almost everything from us, but it couldn’t take the feeling of accomplishment and pride. – Steph, Norway: Footsteps of Giants
"I truly could not be more proud of my daughter. And I have to say...again and again, as I know I have said before, but RLT has impacted her life in the most positive of ways. RLT was life altering for her. I talk about her trip all the time. You were a gift from Heaven, we were truly blessed when we came upon RLT."
- Anna M., Parent
"In short, our son had a phenomenal time and the trip exceeded our expectations. His excitement to share his stories, triumphs, and activities has been wonderful. The trip reinforced his personal and shared values and taught him important lessons about our impact on nature and teamwork. His world has been opened and exposed to new ideas and potential opportunities. I am confident the lessons he learned will guide him in the coming weeks, months, years, and his lifetime. We look forward to additional adventures in the years to come." - Mark, Parent
RLT is, in short, the best, safest, and most thoughtful program that exists for teen experiential learning. They've earned and upheld my trust for many years, and I have and would continue to trust and encourage my own family members to take part in their expeditions. - Tom Huntoon, RLT Leader
Thank you for making Sam's two weeks in New Orleans a fantastic, unforgettable, life-changing experience. Although I could tell he was happy to find me waiting for him when he got off the plane, what was most evident was how much he was already missing his camp friends and counselors, the magic of those two special weeks. I can see that he wishes it would have lasted longer and that he was still with his camp family. Please let his counselors know that he had a fantastic time, that he learned so so much about so many different things, that he felt safe and comfortable in his environment. We are very appreciative of the work it took to put together this very meaningful, unforgettable adventure. - Andrea G., 2014 Parent
First time I heard my daughter describe a trip as "amazing." Thank you so much!!
I have been overly impressed with the Road Less Traveled organization and I’m so pleased that we choose it for Elliot. Thank you for changing his/our lives! - Jennifer T., 2014 Parent
