LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED TEEN COMMUNITY SERVICE TRIP Washington: Cascade calling
Very few groups of islands hold the promise and biodiversity of the San Juan. Between Washington State and British Columbia, the San Juan archipelago is one of the most unique regions of the country. Inland old growth forests with hundred-year-old trees. Tide pools promising wonders of the sea: urchins, starfish, mollusks. Become part of the seascape as we move from island to island. At night, we gather for group activities, stories, and time beneath an undisturbed starry sky. Keep your eyes peeled for orca whales and bald eagles as we complete our multi-day adventure.
Northern Cascades National Park is home to some of the most stunning panoramas in the US. Wake up to sunrises as you lace up your boots outside your tent. Play trail games with fellow adventurers as we navigate steep hillsides and fields of snow. Stop for lunch in fields of wildflowers: colors of gold and purple, crimson and apricot scattered throughout. Cook creative backcountry dinners with your newfound friends as the sunlight lasts late into the evening. Take a dip in glacially fed, aquamarine waters after a long day of trekking. For four days, our group hikes through the Northern Cascades. Days may be long and some ascents may be difficult, but our sense of accomplishment, freedom, and adventure will last for many moons to come.
Paddles in hand, our group embarks on the Wenatchee River, seeing the nearby forest from the perspective of the river. Moving past burly, green pines and orchards of famous Washington apples, our group celebrates our hard work with a thrilling float beneath the shadow of the Cascades. Class III and IV rapids await to conclude an epic odyssey of exploration by land and by water.
