We spend our first two nights in a large private home just outside Las Vegas. During this time, we use our home as a base to explore the Hoover Dam, Paddle Board on the iconic Lake Mead, and hike at the pristine Mt. Charleston. Transferring to the stunning red rock canyon near Kanab, Utah, we make ourselves at home in a gorgeous private home for the remainder of the trip. This home provides us with the ultimate base camp to volunteer at Best Friends Animal Society (15 mins away), explore the red rock trails in Kanab, hike past hoodoos at Bryce National Park, swim in the Virgin River at Zion National Park, sightsee at Horseshoe Bend, and picnic at the Grand Canyon.
Located in the heart of red rock country, Best Friends Animal Society is a world-renowned no-kill animal shelter that takes in rescue pups, cats, parrots, pigs, horses, goats, and wild friends from across the globe. Their motto, Save Them All, supports their goal to end killing in America’s shelters and to better the world through kindness to animals. While there, we learn the current best practices from leading animal rehabilitation specialists, chat with professors, and assist with the day-to-day needs of the animals. Examples of previous projects include: giving parrot's showers, weeding dog enclosures, feeding bunnies, socializing with Leukemia cats, applying sunscreen to pot-bellied pigs, painting chicken coops, and walking pups! While there we, balance our hard work with lunch at the all vegetarian canyon cafe and playing frisbee in the grassy Angel's canyon. Students can expect to leave this experience with an increased understanding of how to improve America's shelter system and a life-long passion for our furry friends.
Smell the sweet butterscotch-scented Ponderosa Pines in Bryce, splash in the Virgin River at Zion, and watch the sun sink over the pink Grand Canyon walls. Our Unleashed program provides students with the ultimate opportunity to explore Utah's dramatic orange landscapes and to adventure through some of America's last scenic and wild spaces. In between days of service at Best Friend's Animal Society, we take day trips to the parks to hike, picnic, and snap photographs of these natural wonders. In Bryce, we walk the famous Navajo-Queens Loop trail and take on the challenging switchback Wall Street ascent. We venture to rainbow point, picnic alongside bright red hoodoos, and celebrate the beauty! At Zion National Park, we explore the park by tram, hike the emerald pools, swim in the Virgin River, and more. Our last night is spent at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, where we hike, explore, and enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the rainbow walls.
We could not be more happy that we sent him or pleased with his experience. The fact that he was so accepted and had so much fun on his adventures with you guys was a HUGE confidence builder for him. One that I know both he and I are grateful for," Lynne W., Unleashed Alumni Parent
I just wanted to reach out and personally say that my daughter arrived safely home yesterday (on her birthday) and had an amazing time at the Utah Unleashed Program. It was her first time being away from home for an extended period of time and she said it was one of her best experiences ever! I want to especially thank her leader team for their nurturing leadership, it truly made all the difference," Juliana W., Unleashed Alumni Parent
We were absolutely thrilled with Molly’s experience this past summer. She has only the very best things to say about the experience and, in particular, her trip leaders," Amy K., Unleashed Alumni Parent
