Program Description

How about spending the summer enjoying the beaches of Olympic National Park, sea kayaking the San Juan Islands and scaling the rocks of Mt. Erie? It sounds like a simple choice, but making the decision to join RLT’s Female Youth Initiative course is not just a sea-to-summit adventure through a gorgeous corner of the United States, it is an investment in yourself.

Our initiative is based on trust rather than authority, and during this 18-day all-female journey in the stunning wilds of Washington, we’ll discover new strengths and learn from the challenges we overcome together. Mastering new life skills, we learn the true value of self-reliance, friendships, and leadership skills. With education, we empower and activate one another to become the next generation of leaders and strengthen our commitment and confidence to make a difference in the world.

Nights are spent under a dazzling bowl of stars as we celebrate our growing sense of achievement and independence. In games, around campfires, and in conversations, we deepen our friendships and better understand who we are individually and collectively as we meet the challenges of being self-confident young women in the 21st century. During our last days together, rock climbing on Fidalgo Island, we come together as a team—encouraging and supporting the leaders we now see in each other.

Together, we conquer challenges, achieve extraordinary physical understanding and success, and discover new strengths as individuals, team members, and leaders.
