TEEN ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE TRIPS
The Road Less Traveled offers teen environmental service trips that give teens in grades 6 to 12 the chance to contribute directly to conservation efforts around the world. These programs range from 1 to 4 weeks and are designed to balance hands-on service, outdoor adventure, and cultural exchange in some of the planet’s most remarkable places.
At RLT, environmental service means more than checking a box. We partner with local organizations and community leaders to ensure our projects are meaningful, needed, and connected to long-term goals. Teens not only learn about the environmental challenges facing our world, but also take part in efforts to address them.
What Teens Do on Environmental Service Trips
Every project is different, but the focus is always on protecting natural environments and reducing human impact. Depending on the trip, teens may take part in:
Data collection and field monitoring
Tree planting and reforestation
Removing invasive species and restoring native habitats
Erosion control and soil stabilization projects
Trail maintenance and park restoration
Wildlife conservation and education support
These experiences allow teens to see the direct results of their efforts while working alongside people dedicating their lives to conservation.
Why Environmental Service Matters for Teens
Participating in environmental service helps teens understand both the complexity of environmental challenges and the power of individual and group action. It gives them a chance to contribute to something larger than themselves while building resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Through these programs, teens will:
Develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world
Learn sustainable practices that carry into their daily lives
Connect with peers and mentors who share a passion for conservation
Gain confidence through meaningful, hands-on contribution
More Than Just Service
While service is at the heart of these trips, each program also includes outdoor adventure and cultural connection. Teens might snorkel along coral reefs, hike mountain trails, or spend time with local communities—all while reflecting on the link between human activity and the environment.
Do You Offer Other Types of Teen Travel Programs?
Yes. In addition to environmental service programs, The Road Less Traveled offers teen summer travel opportunities in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and across the United States. Every program is designed with the same foundation: small groups, hands-on experiences, and space for teens to grow into capable, connected leaders.
