About The Road Less Traveled’s Teen Travel Summer Programs
The Road Less Traveled offers summer travel programs for teens in grades 6 to 12 that center on adventure, service learning, cultural immersion, and teen development. Programs span 1 to 4 weeks and include destinations across the United States, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Since 1991, we have partnered with local communities to craft experiences that help teens grow with purpose, perspective, and confidence. Each program is small—around 12 to 14 teens—and led by experienced RLT leaders who ensure safety, support, and meaningful reflection.
What Makes RLT Different
We believe travel can be life changing. RLT programs are about helping teens become more confident, connected, and compassionate through challenge and service.
Life-changing experiences: Teens immerse in new cultures, take on physical and emotional challenges, and return with a clearer sense of self and purpose.
Service at the heart: Nearly every trip includes a service component—environmental restoration, community support, or cultural exchange—so teens contribute, not just observe.
Growth through challenge: By balancing outdoor adventure with guided reflection, teens develop resilience, independence, and leadership.
Intentional small groups: With just 12 to 14 teens, groups are close-knit and deeply connected.
Lasting perspective: Through service, daily reflection, and immersion, teens emerge more grounded and self-aware.
Types of Teen Travel Programs
Our programs are designed to meet teens where they are. They can expect:
Adventure and exploration: Hike, kayak, bike, trek, camp, explore historic sites, and step into unfamiliar landscapes.
Community and environmental service: Conserve ecosystems, support education, or partner with cultural and environmental organizations.
Cultural immersion: Practice language, learn new traditions, and engage with local communities on a daily level.
Regions We Travel In
United States: Wilderness treks, wildlife conservation, and service projects from Alaska to Puerto Rico.
Latin America: Volunteer in rainforest communities, visit Machu Picchu, and engage in Spanish immersion.
Europe: Combine mountain treks, Mediterranean service, and cultural exploration across iconic regions.
Africa: Explore Morocco’s desert, trek in the High Atlas, and contribute to rural community projects.
Asia: Participate in conservation, volunteer in schools, and immerse in local life across Thailand, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
